Companies and Businesses

Downtown Frederick contains a thriving commercial mix - from eclectic stores and restaurants to professional firms and organizations.  Over 3,000 employees work in the Main Street area at nearly 700 businesses or organizations.  Many work for government institutions that serve as anchors to the downtown economy.  Downtown is also home to a wide range of professionals - from traditional attorneys, realtors and financial advisors to an innovative creative class of information technology providers, architects, graphic designers, artists and advertisers.  These workers contribute to a unique blend of old history and innovation that differentiates Downtown Frederick from other mid-sized city cores.  Finally, workers at downtown's many nonprofit organizations add civic and humanitarian dimensions to the local economy.

Frederick County Source Reduction Award

Recycling has long been recognized as a method of achieving positive environmental and economic impacts for businesses, but wise waste management involves more than just recycling, it incorporates waste reduction as well.  A new program has been developed in order to acknowledge the efforts and innovative steps that many local businesses are enacting to create less waste: the annual Frederick County Source Reduction Award.

The Department of Solid Waste Management, in conjunction with The Frederick County Office of Economic Development, Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, City of Frederick Economic Development and the Downtown Frederick Partnership will select businesses and organizations located throughout the County that have implemented or expanded innovative and successful waste reduction programs.
