Flowers Over Frederick
Now in the fourth consecutive year, the Flowers Over Frederick project has grown to include 36 lovely hanging flower baskets situated along Market, Patrick and East Streets. The community response to the baskets has been extremely positive. Everyone—citizens and tourists alike—agree that the flowers greatly enhance the beauty of our city.
Flowers Over Frederick is a joint effort of Downtown Frederick Partnership, the Community Foundation of Frederick County, the Garden Club of Frederick, the Green-walled Garden Club, the Holly Hills Garden Club, NAC 11, the Tasker’s Chance Garden Club and the Tourism Council of Frederick County. The Partnership provides staff support to the all volunteer committee. Flowers Over Frederick has established a fund through the Community Foundation of Frederick County. Donations to support the hanging flower baskets are made directly to this fund.
Annual operating costs for Flowers Over Frederick are about $12,000. This budget funds the flowers, the hanging baskets, the brackets and flower maintenance including watering and fertilizer. Flowers Over Frederick is able to pay these costs solely through donations provided by local garden clubs, Neighborhood Advisory Council #11, fundraisers and private donors.
